Faith Matters has appointed Varinder Singh to be a patron of the organisation and given his background in community mobilisation and engagement. Varinder Singh was also a key activist in Sikhs Against the English Defence League. Varinder is also a Councillor in the London Borough of Redbridge and he is a member of the Redbridge Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education (SACRE), and until recently was Chairman of the Equality and Diversity Advisory Panel.
Varinder has been appointed by the UK Government as a member of the UK delegation to the Congress of the Council of Europe. He serves on its Current Affairs Committee and holds responsibility as the substitute spokesperson on cultural diversity and inclusion.
Talking about his support for Faith Matters, Councillor Varinder Singh Bola said: “I am honoured to have been asked to become a patron for Faith Matters – an organisation that I have admired and followed closely for over seven years.”
He added: “I fully support the great work that Faith Matters does to promote dialogue, reduce conflict and promote better understanding of interfaith issues in the United Kingdom. Their tireless work with local communities and government on social issues is needed now more than ever before.”
