Residents in Redbridge are being given the opportunity to have their say in the council’s budget consultation through the online budget consultation tool, ‘YouChoose’.
Since taking control of the council our Councillors have been frank, open and realistic about the unprecedented large scale budget pressures we face from central government. This coupled with huge increases in demand for our services means we won’t be able to protect all the services we provide.
Between 2010 and 2018, we will have lost around £100m of our funding, over half of our direct grant. Because of these pressures, we have to save £58 million over the next three years, in addition to £80 million that we have already saved since 2010.
The amount of savings needed to be found is much bigger than any we have had to face before and will mean we simply cannot continue to provide all the services we currently offer. This means we have some difficult to decisions to make.
We can’t fight this challenge alone and that’s why it’s important that we involve as many staff, residents and stakeholders as possible, before we make those decisions.
